This is a 2024 high-quality specimen of a Major Goldfinch (Carduelis carduelis, Major type) Male in the Panache mutation.
The Major form is a selectively bred, larger version of the European Goldfinch, prized by European breeders for its bigger size, stronger presence, richer colour intensity, and clearer head markings compared to the standard (Parva) type.
The Panache (also called panaché or pied) mutation reduces melanin in specific areas of the plumage. This creates the attractive variegated pattern visible here — soft orange facial colouring, clean yellow wing patches, and well-defined black-and-white body and tail markings — while retaining the classic goldfinch elegance.
A live bird travels one of three ways: collected in person, sent by USPS, or flown same-day with Delta Cargo. Birds are reserved on their own rather than alongside other items, and we contact you after the order to agree the date and the details.
Local pickup
Free Collect the bird in person at an agreed time. No transit at all, which makes it the safest option by a wide margin.
USPS shipping$86.00Sent as a live-animal parcel, usually a day or more in transit. We pack for the whole journey, though Delta Cargo gets your bird home sooner.
Delta Cargo — same-day$200.00Flown the same day and collected from the Delta Cargo counter at your airport. Hours in transit instead of days, which is what the extra cost is buying.
Whichever you choose, we contact you after the order to agree the date and the details. Nothing travels before we have spoken.
Travelling safely
Every bird we ship is one we have judged fit for the journey. It travels in a ventilated box sized for it, with food and water for the trip, and we book the shortest routing available so it is back in a quiet room as soon as possible.
Time in transit is what matters most. USPS carries your bird as a parcel, which usually means a day or more. Delta Cargo flies it the same day and you collect it at the cargo counter, so the journey is measured in hours instead. That is why we recommend Delta Cargo wherever your airport allows it — and why we will say so plainly if we think a particular bird would be happier collected in person.
Once a bird leaves us the journey is in the carrier's hands, so shipped birds travel at the buyer's risk. We are not distant about that: if anything concerns you when your bird arrives, tell us the same day and we will work it through with you.
We guarantee the bird is healthy and as described at the moment it leaves us, and we will always talk through any concern with you.
